March 20, 2013: Benson Tower Hosts Successful Food Truck Food Court

Several hundred New Orleans CBD professionals, in spite of the dreary weather today, came out to support the Food Truck Food Court sponsored by Benson Tower, Corporate Realty, The New Orleans Food Truck Coalition, and Slow Food New Orleans. In all, five food trucks participated in the special event along the side of Benson Tower - La Cocinita, Frencheeze, Fat Falafel, Taceaux Loceaux and Empanada Intifada. The event was so successful and filled a void in the area dining options that many professionals in the neighborhood expressed their desire to have future periodic Food Truck Food Courts with alternating food trucks.

October 30, 2012: Benson Tower Goes Green!

New Orleans Magazine recently featured Benson Tower and its achievement of LEED© Certification in its October issue. October 17, 2012: Successful Benson Tower Blood Drive!

Benson Tower partnered with Ochsner Health System to host a blood drive along LaSalle St. next to Benson Tower on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Ochsner Health System reported that the blood drive had excellent turnout with 60 potential donors attending and collection of 55 units of blood. Up to 165 blood components can be created from the units of blood collected. Thanks to all who participated and helped save lives! September 12, 2012: 3rd Annual Special Olympics Louisiana Over the Edge fundraiser @ Benson Tower

Benson Tower was proud to host the 3rd Annual Special Olympics Louisiana Over the Edge fundraiser on Friday, September 7th. Special Olympics Louisiana had 35 people rappel and was able to raise over $45,000! The Benson family has been an integral part of the success of this event by allowing the use of Benson Tower and in providing the support of the New Orleans Saints and Hornets organizations. Rita Benson LeBlanc, Owner/Vice Chairman of the Board of the New Orleans Saints and Hornets, (below) has also participated all three years and is a key supporter of Special Olympics Louisiana. Benson Tower looks forward to continuing its partnership with Special Olympics Louisiana and supporting their effort to provide all children and adults with intellectual disabilities with opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.


September 5, 2012: Benson Tower Hosts Several Wellness Initiatives

During the month of August, Benson Tower partnered with Ochsner Health System & the State of Louisiana to offer tenants and their patrons the opportunity to participate in several wellness initiatives. On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, Benson Tower hosted an Ochsner Health System blood drive on the LaSalle St. pedestrian thoroughfare. Ochsner Health System reported that the blood drive had excellent turnout with 62 potential donors attending and collection of 56 units of blood. Up to 168 blood components can be created from those units and will help save as many lives!

Benson Tower also hosted the State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals' Living Well New Orleans Kickoff/Men's Health Day event on Monday, August 20th. The event heightened the awareness of preventable health problems and encouraged early detection and treatment of disease among Louisiana men and boys. Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, and glucose health screenings and samples of healthy snacks were just a few of the items available to the public as part of the Living Well New Orleans Kickoff and Men's Health Day event. Department of Health and Hospitals' personnel also encouraged men to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for diseases and injuries and challenged them to participate in a three-month wellness challenge.

August 3, 2012: Benson Tower Awarded Prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification

Corporate Realty, Inc. announced today that Benson Tower has been awarded LEED® Certification. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Benson Tower achieved LEED® Certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. As the first high-rise office tower in New Orleans to achieve LEED® Certification, Benson Tower has set the bar high for future development in the region. Mike Siegel, President of Corporate Realty, Inc., was quick to credit New Orleans Saints and Benson Tower owner Tom Benson for "having a strong commitment to the redevelopment and rebirth of the City of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and for pursuing quality, sustainable development at Benson Tower that has spurred additional economic development and growth around the Superdome and along Poydras Street."

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Over 50,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, comprising over 9 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 130 countries.

"Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "Benson Tower efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come."

Some of the highlighting features of the design and construction utilized in the redevelopment of Benson Tower are as follows:

  • Environmentally sustainable vegetative roofs.
  • 24% reduction in energy consumption.
  • 33% reduction in water consumption.
  • 100% reuse of the existing building structure.

Benson Tower is proud to be hosting the upcoming ‘Over the Edge’ event fundraiser for Special Olympics Louisiana.

On Friday, September 7, 2012, Special Olympics Louisiana fundraisers who raise $1,000 or more will be rappelling down the side of one of New Orleans’ high-rise office towers - the 26-story Benson Tower located next to the Superdome - and busting through an extreme SWAT experience hosted by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office.
